COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. What happens if there is no plug within 1.5m of where the fire is going?
Pellet fires require electricity to run. Arrange an electrician to fit a plug or run an extension lead to the fire.
  2. How many watts of electricity does the fire use to run?
During usual operating a pellet fire uses about 220 watts of electricity, about the same as a couple of light bulbs.
  3. How much fuel will most pellet fire owners use?
Ordinarily, most Pellet Fire owners use approximately one ton of fuel a season. There are many variables to fuel consumption such as; house insulation, surface area of windows, the size of the rooms & dwelling, preferred room temperature etc. As an example; the least amount of fuel one of our clients used during one winter is 13 bags and the most is two ton (100 bags).
  4. How much is one ton?
One ton of pellet fuel is approximately 1.2m³ and takes up about one third of the space of the equivalent firewood.
  5. What is the ash content of the pellets?
Less than 1% of the fuel burnt is left as ash. This means the ash-pan ordinarily gets emptied only several times a year.
  6. How often should the fire be cleaned?
For maximum efficiency, a Pellet Fire needs to be vacuumed regularly, we recommend weekly, when the fire is cold. The firepot liner should be cleaned daily.
  7. Can an existing flue be used?
An existing flue cannot be used.
  8. Can an existing hearth be used?
An existing hearth can be used if there is 150mm from the fire door to the front of the hearth.
  9. What area will the fire heat?
A Parkwood Fire will heat approximately 190m².
  10. How does the fire light?
The fire is ignited by an electric element. Hot air is convected onto the pellets which spontaneously combust after several minutes because the pellets are so dry.
  11. What are the emissions?
The emission level of a Parkwood Pellet Fire is 0.6 gr per kilogram of
fuel burnt. The Compact model has an emission level of 0.5gr per kilogram. This is amongst the very lowest emissions of any solid fuel appliance in the
    world.
  12. What is the space heating efficiency?
The overall space heating efficiency is 85%; on low, the space heating efficiency is 90%. This is amongst the highest of any solid fuel appliance anywhere in the world.
  13. When can my fire be installed?
Depending on the availability of an installer, the fire can usually be installed straight away.
  14. How long will a hearth take to make?
A range of hearhs are available. If a custom hearth is required, generally 7 - 10 days are needed to manufacture the hearth.
  15. What happens if the power goes off?
A pellet fire will not work if the power is switched off.
  16. How much is the deposit?
A deposit of one third of the purchase price is required on all contracts.
  17. When do I pay for the fire?
The balance owing on the contract is payable on or before the day of installation.
